2.6.2021 The secret of happiness People want happiness, it's the purpose of life for most people. Just like wealth, most people don't have it. There is no secret to happiness as well as to wealth. Every individual has their own criteria and definition about it. It's relative and therefore depends on the minds. The happiness of individual depends on the happiness of family, friends, and society as well. It's never singular and separate case. Id an individual lives alone in an island, his happiness is very different compare to those who live in the city. Happiness or wellbeing is somewhat change every time depends on the understanding that one has as an individual and as social being. Therefore happiness is very difficult to get because people don't even understand it. Ask people what they really want, their answer would be happiness. Then ask them to elaborate in detail, they often don't understand about their own conception. It's too abstract and general. Imagine you go to an address in another country but the address is not detail, can get there? very difficult. According to Spinoza, power equals happiness and the true power is understanding. I agree completely to him. Therefore thue happiness is understanding. Our world is limited by our knowledge. One doesn't live in a country, one lives in a language. Those who know several languages live in several worlds. Reality is difference from individual to individual. No one sees the and perceives the same event totally same. So suffering is subjective. Your suffering is not my suffering, your happiness is not my happiness. Socrates said that "There is only one good, knowledge, and one evil, ignorance." Ignorance people believe that money will bring happiness. It's half true. Money bring happiness and unhappiness equally. It gives you safety and danger equally. Money makes you greedy. Understanding is different. It brings peaceful of mind. Most problems and sufferings are imagination. Today, because of globalization, the richest man doesn't enjoy better foods than most people, they don't enjoy better TV shows, better entertainment, all people basically enjoy the same thing. The richest people are not much happier than normal people. Money doesn't buy happiness. It buys the illusion of happiness. The study of lottery winners prove this statement, a year after they win the lottery, their happiness come back to the previous level, some even get worse.
